Mining and Aggregates

Water plays a crucial role in mining operations, as it is needed for a wide range of processes, including mineral processing, the extraction of minerals from ores and dust suppression. However, the use of water in mining can also have negative impacts on the environment. To address these issues, many mining companies implement water management strategies that focus on reducing water consumption, recycling and reusing water where possible (within the process and filtering tailings), and treating discharge wastewater to minimize its impact on the environment.

Solutions we offer:
  • Fresh water and process water recycled within the plant contains particles that need to be removed to prevent wear on pump seals, blocked nozzles, and many other applications.
  • To reduce shipping costs the Concentrate produced by the mine must be dewatered to the greatest feasible extent prior to shipping to the smelter. Filter Presses produce a dewatered cake with the lowest possible moisture content.
  • Traditional tailings ponds can pose a significant risk to the environment. As a result, many mining companies are exploring alternative methods for managing tailings, such as dry stacking, which offers several benefits over traditional tailings storage methods. The tailings slurry is dewatered to 80-85% solids using a filter press, the recovered water is recycled back to the plant, and the cake placed in a constructed dry-stack.
  • In some areas where there is very little rainfall (e.g. desert regions of Chile), it may be necessary to desalinate seawater to produce a water supply.
  • Mine processing plants are like a giant chemistry set, where chemicals, reagents and polymers are fed into various processes – these need to be properly mixed and dosed into the process.
  • On-site oxygen generators provide a lower cost, constant source ofoxygen without bringing in tankers of Liquid Oxygen.
  • Prevent Algae growing in ponds or water storage tanks using Ultrasonic Algae treatment
  • Discharge water usually contains pollutants, (chemicals and dissolved metals), these need to be treated prior to discharge.
